Help Language Research and Have Fun at U of M’s Baby Language Lab!

I got an email from U of M’s Baby Language Lab asking for help in publicizing their research work, and am happy to do so — read on for info on a cool opportunity to help researchers understand how babies learn language!

Looking for a fun outing with your little one to help out science? The Baby Language Lab is always looking for volunteer baby participants 0-24 months old. Most studies involve one or two visits to the lab of less than half an hour. You baby hears sounds and we measure their interest in what they are hearing. You will be asked to fill out a brief questionnaire. We might also ask to do a developmental assessment that takes about 1 hour.

Right now we are especially in need of infants 5-14 months born preterm (less than 37 weeks in the womb), but we have studies for full term infants as well. For more information or to sign up to participate, check out our website http://www.babylanguagelab.org or call 204-474-8798.

Need some help with your new baby’s sleep?

Modern Mama Winnipeg is hosting a sleep workshop for parents with babies 0-3 months! The event takes place at Donna Sarna Physiotherapy on Sunday, September 14, from 11am to 1pm.

“Are you wanting to get your little one on the right track for sleeping? Maybe you just need some pointers on nap time and bed time routines?

Meaghan Lussier from Time For Bed Sleep Solutions will be leading us in a small, private workshop with her 7 Top Tips For A Good Nights Sleep on September 14th, 2014.  The focus of our workshop will be infants from the age of 3 months and older!

Each Mama (or Dada) in attendance will be given the education and strategies to write their own sleep plan, and to go home and change their child’s sleep habits!

Meaghan is also offering 1 Week of Free Email Support (up to 1 email/day) to every parent in attendance!  She will also have a reduced rate if you book a full service consultation with her that day!

All you need to bring is your 1 Burning Question!  Each participant will get the opportunity to ask a question to spark a great discussion!

This event is Baby Friendly!  Bring your little one to come and sit with you!  For older children, Nanny service is available, just let us know at time of registration!”

Tickets are $10 for members; $15 for non-members or $25 for couples; $15/child for nanny service. Get all the details at the Modern Mama Winnipeg website.
